After competing against Canada at home at a mock invitational earlier this month, Cayman gymnasts were back in action, this time at the Fall Gasparilla Classic in Florida.

Motions Unlimited prepared and sent a national gymnastics team of 19 to show off their talents at the prestigious event, held from 19-20 Oct., which for many of the Cayman athletes marked their first time taking part in a competition of this scale. But despite their inexperience, they rose to the occasion.

“We were very excited to see the girls perform so well,” Kelley Paz, Cayman’s head coach told the Compass.

The Level Silver, Gold, and Xcel Platinum teams achieved a spectacular first-place finish, while the Level 3 team secured an impressive third place.

In addition to the top team results, several individual gymnasts delivered standout performances – something Paz noted was a triumph and a testament to the hard work from the athletes and coaches Alison Laidler and Miriam Schwabe.

“Their hard work and dedication were on full display, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,” Paz said.

“These team accomplishments reflect not only the skill and dedication of the athletes but also the strength of the programme in preparing young gymnasts for success.”

The team will be looking to build on their recent success when they return to Florida in a couple of weeks. The Xcel Gold, Platinum and Level 8 teams will take part in the Charity Challenge Competition in Wesley Chapel from 16-17 Nov.
